ARCATA, CA. – Humboldt State University athletics has commissioned Rojo Research to perform a fan study in an effort to increase corporate sponsorship revenue.

“The fact Humboldt State continues to sponsor football illustrates the athletic program is a bastion of solidity.” comments John Herron, CEO of Rojo Research. “Most California State University schools discontinued football during the last millennium.”

“Of the 23 CSU campuses, only six currently sponsor intercollegiate football (Fresno State, San Diego State, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Cal Poly, and Humboldt State); while only three of ten University of California campuses field teams (UCLA, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley). The Lumberjacks are the only active Division II football program left in California.”

“We look forward to assist Lumberjacks athletics underscore the immense value their fans offer sponsors and prospects.” Herron adds.

Established in 1913 as a teacher’s college, Humboldt State University now offers 47 undergraduate majors, 84 minors, and 12 graduate programs. HSU is one of two California universities to offer a degree in botany. The university has a student population of 6,700 undergraduates and 1,000 graduates. Humboldt State was cited as one of 123 colleges named Best Western College by The Princeton Review, and a 2010 Top Master’s Level University in the West by US News and World Report.

Notable Humboldt State alumni include short story writer and poet Raymond Carver; Ken Fisher, billionaire CEO of Fisher Investments; NFL running back Wendell Hayes; and Stephen Hillenburg, creator of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Humboldt State University sponsors 12 NCAA Division II men’s and women’s sports, and is a member of the California Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) and a football member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).

Humboldt State is the fifth school from California to commission Rojo. Others include Fresno State, California, Sacramento State, and California State University San Bernardino. Rojo Research also worked with California minor league baseball clubs the Stockton Ports, Modesto Nuts, and Lancaster JetHawks.

The Lumberjacks are also Rojo’s tenth Division II partner, joining Northwest Missouri State, CSU San Bernardino, Minnesota State-Mankato, Abilene Christian, West Texas A&M, Newberry, Missouri Southern State, Simon Fraser, and Winston-Salem State.
