UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT MERCY TITANS COMMISSION FAN STUDY
ROJO RESEARCH BELIEVES METRO MID-MAJOR PROGRAMS ARE STRONG SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY

DETROIT, MI – The University of Detroit Mercy athletics has commissioned Rojo Research to perform a fan study in an effort to increase corporate sponsorship revenue as well as illuminate internal matters of marketing, media consumption, ticket sales, promotion, and game day experience.

“Several of our clients are mid-major programs located in metropolitan markets, such as Towson, Niagara, Belmont, Kennesaw State, CSU San Bernardino, Sacramento State, UT San Antonio, and North Carolina Central to name a few.” remarks John Herron, CEO of Rojo Research.

“We appreciate UDM allowing us to assist Titans athletics underscore the immense value their fans offer sponsors and prospects. Using a combination of fan consumer behavior penetration, fan avidity, influence of marketing inventory, media consumption, and acute price points – UDM may statically prove to be a more attractive partner for sponsors than the Lions, Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings; as well as Michigan and Michigan State.”

Established in 1876 as Detroit College, University of Detroit Mercy is the largest Roman Catholic University in Michigan. The university has a student population of 5,700 students and offer approximately 100 academic programs. UMD is ranked as top tier of Midwestern master’s universities by US News and World Report “American’s Best Colleges 2010”.

Notable University of Detroit Mercy alumni include author Elmore Leonard; Neal Shine, former publisher Detroit Free Press; Marlena Peleo-Lazar, McDonald’s chief creative officer; NASA flight director Glynn Lunney; NFL RB and 1938 Washington Redskins first round draft pick Andy “Anvil Andy” Farkas; the Mayor of Belize City, Belize Zanaida Moya; and Dave DeBusschere, New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons player and NBA Hall of Fame inductee.

The University of Detroit Mercy sponsors 17 NCAA Division I men’s and women’s sports, and is a member of the Horizon League. In 1977, under the leadership of ESPN commentator Dick Vitale, the Titans reached the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament “Sweet 16” before losing to Michigan 86-81. Since 1996-97, UDM has won 14 Horizon League championships.

UDM is the eighth Horizon League member to partner with Rojo Research joining Butler, Cleveland State, Loyola University Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Wright State, and Valparaiso.

Launched in September 2006, the company has quickly risen to one of the largest providers of audience research for NCAA member institutions and professional sports organizations with over 70 partners throughout the U.S and Canada.

Rojo Research also offers syndicated local-market Latino media research.
