MEAC COMMISSIONS FAN RESEARCH FOR 2009 BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Virginia Beach, VA – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has commissioned Rojo Research to collect fan demographic data on attendees of the 2009 MEAC Basketball Championship Tournament in Winston-Salem, NC.
The conference will leverage such fan data to underscore the value of the tournament's audience to create long term sponsorships opportunities.
"We were very intrigued when the MEAC contacted us with this unique project." comments John Herron, CEO of Rojo Research. "Rojo has worked with over 55 college athletics programs in the U.S. and Canada, but performing fan research for a single conference-wide event such as the MEAC Basketball Championship Tournament is a tremendous opportunity. The MEAC appears to be an aggressive and proactive organization that understands the immense value of their fan base, and greatly desires to illustrate a strong value proposition to current and potential sponsors"
Established in 1970, the MEAC is a NCAA Division I conference consisting of 12 historically black institutions across the Atlantic coastline: Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Howard University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina A&T State University, South Carolina State University, and Winston-Salem State University.
MEAC member institutions have fostered numerous athletic greats, including Harry Carson (Football-SCSU), Elvin Bethea (Football-NCA&T), legendary coach Clarence "Big House" Gaines (Men's Basketball-WSSU), and Earl "The Pearl" Monroe (Men's Basketball-WSSU).
Rojo Research specializes in audience research to assist college athletics programs and professional sports organizations increase corporate sponsorship revenues. Launched in September 2006, the company has quickly risen to one of the largest providers of audience research for NCAA member institutions. The MEAC is the third partnership for Rojo with a Historical Black College & Universities institution, joining Winston-Salem State University and North Carolina Central University.
Through phone and web-based methodology, Rojo Research captures over 400 data points, including demographics, purchasing trends, shopping habits and local media consumption. The firm also offers local-market syndicated Spanish media research.
