WINSTON-SALEM STATE RAMS RELY ON ROJO RESEARCH - May 22 2008
Winston-Salem, NC. – Winston-Salem Athletics has commissioned Rojo Research to perform a study on fan demographics. Rojo Research will capture data on fan demographics, purchasing plans, shopping behavior and event experience; with such data leveraged to provide a return on investment for corporate sponsors.
“One of the most underserved areas in HBCU athletics is a dedicate focus on fundraising for athletics. In my opinion we are finally recognizing the value and importance of having a focused effort for athletics fundraising. Certainly the first step is to develop the necessary infrastructure to get it done; the next step is to implement a partnership with Rojo Research.” Comments Dr. Chico Caldwell, Director of Athletics for Winston-Salem State University.

Winston-Salem State fields 14 NCAA Division I sports and is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Rams basketball icons such as Gaines, Earl “the Pearl” Monroe, and Cleo Hill were recently chronicled the ESPN documentary Black Magic.
Founded in 1892 as the Slater Industrial and State Normal School, Winston-Salem State University merged into the University of North Carolina system in 1972. The university has an enrollment of near 6,000 students, and offers 43 majors and 12 graduate programs.
Noted alumni include Cleo Hill, the first Historic Black College & University (HBCU) graduate to be drafted in the NBA first round, Philadelphia Inquirer columnist & ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, and the leader of the Nation of Islam Louis Farrakhan.
In the 2007-2008 academic year, Winston-Salem State University has moved to NCAA Division I from Division II as it joined the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
