FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 16, 2010
“The recent success of Gael’s men’s basketball offers local and regional marketers an intriguing opportunity.” comments John Herron, CEO of Rojo Research. "We’re pleased St. Mary’s invited Rojo to help underscore the immense value their fan base as a highly desirable, extremely motivated audience.”
Founded in 1863, the institution is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and administered by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. St. Mary’s College offers 35 undergraduate degree programs and 19 graduate and professional programs. The student population is more than 4,700 students.
St. Mary’s College was ranked as the 56th best college in the U.S. by Forbes Magazine and the 12th best college to fulfill a Master’s degree in the West by U.S. News and World Report in 2009.
Noted alumni include Robert Hass, Poet Laureate of the United States 1995-97; entertainer Tony Martin, Hollywood Walk of Fame; John F. Henning, U.S. ambassador to New Zealand; Harry Hooper, National Baseball Hall of Fame member; gymnast Tracee Talavera, Olympic medalist; and Nicholas Moore, retired Chairman of PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
While known for its Top 25 Gael’s men’s basketball program, once the school was a dominate football program on the west coast. Major victories of Gaelic lore include the 1933 Cotton Bowl against Texas Tech, a stunning upset of USC in 1924, and a cross-county train trip to defeat heavily favored Fordham and its famed “Seven Blocks of Granite” in 1930.
The Gaels are the second West Coast Conference member to partner with Rojo, and the seventh California institution joining Fresno State, Cal, San Jose State, Sacramento State, Humboldt State, and CSU San Bernardino.
